Montco Mamas Collective Impact Event

The collective impact and stakeholder event brought together nearly 40 community-based healthcare providers, and maternal and child professionals for a day of networking, connecting, and learning about the state of infant and maternal mortality, and Montco Mamas’ impact.
Since the beginning, Montco Mamas has been committed to eliminating inequities surrounding race and infant mortality, ensuring Black and Brown women, birthing people, and families in Montgomery County have the resources, opportunities, and support needed for healthy pregnancies and thriving children.
The program included lunch, breakout sessions, and networking opportunities. Neonatologist, Dr. Diana Montoya-Williams of Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) presented on multi-level supportive and preventative measures, and the current and local data on the state of infant mortality.
Jamiylah Miller, Program Manager for Doula Services and Montco Mamas, Maternity Care Coalition shared, “I envision that when anyone is seeking a culturally inclusive support system, doula and lactation services, and other resources to support healthy birth outcomes in Montgomery County that families will look for us; Montco Mamas.
This stakeholder event will show Montco Mamas’ daily commitment to birthing people and families in Montgomery County and will empower community-based reproductive healthcare providers, doulas, birthing people, and those passionate about strengthening families and creating an atmosphere where babies are raised in a healthy environment that is conducive to their growth and ability to thrive.”
Montco Mamas, an initiative of Maternity Care Coalition, began three years ago and was created by and for Montgomery County-based birthing people and parenting families. Montco Mamas seeks to support Black and Brown mothers and babies based in Montgomery County; supporting them throughout their pregnancy journey to increase healthy birthing outcomes. This is done through increased use of maternal and child health professionals; targeted education on maternal and child health, parenting, and behavioral health support; and increased provider understanding of Black and Brown women and Black and Brown birthing people’s experience.
The Montco Mamas Collective Impact Event was an inspiring day where community members had an opportunity to honor the impact of Montco Mamas and envisioned the future together.
