Week of the Young Child celebrates our youngest learners and recognizes the vital work of our early childhood educators!

Every year, Maternity Care Coalition participates in Week of the Young Child. This important week is dedicated to highlighting and supporting the critical period of rapid brain growth in early childhood.

It also promotes meaningful activities that strengthen children's cognitive, social, and emotional development, and advocates for high-quality education to foster lifelong growth and success.

This year, both center-based and home-based families and children celebrated with us through a week of specialized activity.

  • Music Monday: When children sing, dance, and listen to music, they develop their language and early literacy skills while being active and encouraging movement.
  • Tasty Tuesday: This fun, food-themed day is about more than just cheese and crackers. Cooking together connects math with literacy skills, science, and more.
  • Work Together Wednesday: When children build together they explore math and science concepts and develop their social and early literacy skills.
  • Artsy Thursday: Celebrate the joy and learning children experience when engaged in creative art-making.
  • Family Friday: Engaging and celebrating families is at the heart of supporting our youngest learners.

Advocates participated in the daily themed activities with their families during home visits and groups for the week. At our Early Head Start childcare centers, the children had sessions with Emily the nutritionist and Mr. David the Music Man.

The week closed out with a socialization for all families at the Elmwood Zoo in Norristown, where the kids visited and learned about giraffes, zebras, monkeys, and more!
