DONOR SPOTLIGHT: A SWEET SUMMER TREAT
Bearing yellow pom-poms and big smiles, Giorgia (8), Rachel (8), Allison (6), and Carla (4) sold lemonade to neighbors and passersby to help them battle last summer’s record-breaking heat.
But providing refreshing cups of lemonade, “made with love,” was not the girls’ only intention. Their mission was to raise money for a nonprofit organization working to benefit moms and babies. After doing a quick Google search for a local organization, the girls came across Maternity Care Coalition (MCC) and decided to hold lemonade stands throughout the summer to benefit MCC.
When the girls reached out to MCC to share the exciting news that they would be donating their proceeds, Margie Chastain, MCC’s Early Head Start Mental Health/Site Coordinator, gladly invited them to MCC’s Norristown site to show Giorgia, Rachel, Allison, and Carla what MCC is all about.
At the Norristown site, Margie spoke to the girls about what MCC does and asked them why they decided to hold a lemonade stand to benefit MCC. Giorgia said, “We just had a little spark in our brains.”
The girls also got to see the community gathering space at the site, an area where client families can interact while their children play.
Finally, the girls presented the check, very officially, to Margie. When asked what they hoped their contribution of $65 would be used for, they said, “Arts and crafts for the kids in [MCC’s] programs.”
Thank you so much Giorgia, Rachel, Allison, and Carla! Your contribution to MCC will help us continue to strengthen families and inspire change.
