Empowering Families, Celebrating Our Doula and Lactation Community Health Worker Training Graduates

Graduates
Congratulations to our largest training cohort yet, who have just joined MCC’s Doula Network!

On Friday, September 5, 2025, Maternity Care Coalition (MCC) proudly celebrated the graduation of our largest Doula and Lactation Community Health Worker Training cohort to date, including our very first male doulo.

Graduates shared powerful reflections on how the training has impacted them, granting them the ability to serve and support pregnant families in their communities. Loved ones, both in person and virtually, expressed pride in our graduates and their accomplishments.

This training is part of MCC’s workforce development initiative, which prepares community members to improve access to culturally responsive maternity care before, during, and after childbirth. Through our Community Doula and Lactation program, graduates strengthen families by providing education, emotional support, and care that respects and honors cultural traditions.

Graduates are invited to join MCC’s Doula Network, where they can connect with families seeking doula services.

What is a doula? The word doula comes from the Greek for “woman caregiver.” Today, doulas are non-medical professionals trained to provide informational, emotional, and physical support to parents before, during, and after labor and birth. They do not provide medical care or make decisions for families, but instead walk alongside them with compassion and support.
