Early Head Start

Early Head Start (EHS) is an early care and education program that provides services to pregnant women and families with children ages 0-3. EHS serves families in their homes or in childcare centers located in South Philadelphia, Norristown and Pottstown offering:

  • The highest quality educational and family support
  • Free developmental and health screenings for children
  • Services for children with disabilities
  • Connections to community resources for job training, English as a Second Language (ESL) classes, medical and dental care and more
  • Baby basics such as diapers, gently used clothing and infant formula

Our childcare centers are all rated Keystone STAR 3 or 4 facilities.

EHS includes families in all decisions because parents are their children’s first and most important teachers. Families are involved in:

  • Setting goals for themselves and their children
  • Participating in parent-child activities where parents and children play, learn and share experiences
  • Helping to oversee the program including serving on the parent-led Policy Council

You are eligible for services if you are:

  • Pregnant or have a child under 3 years of age
  • Have an income at or below the federal poverty guidelines
  • Live in South Philadelphia, Norristown, Pottstown, or Lower Bucks County
  • Have a child with a disability? Families who have children with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply.
