Public Policy Forum: Kellie Phelan’s Story
For the past 6 years, Kellie Phelan has worked with hundreds of children whose parents either are incarcerated or formerly incarcerated. Before becoming the Program Coordinator for Hour Children’s "Hour Friend In Deed" Mentoring Program, Kellie herself was incarcerated, pregnant, and in treatment for opioid dependency.
MCC Pioneers Parental Leave Policy Change
Earlier this month, Maternity Care Coalition became a pioneer in parental leave policies. JoAnne Fischer, Executive Director of MCC, announced that the organization will begin aligning their Human Resource policies with their mission, offering 6 weeks of paid family leave—which extends to new parents, whether biological, adoptive or foster parents, and same sex domestic partners.
