Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (October 27th, 2017)– Philadelphia Breastfeeding Leader Maternity Care Coalition (MCC) is proud to announce that Janney Montgomery Scott LLC (“Janney”), a leading full-service wealth management, financial services and investment banking firm headquartered in Philadelphia, PA, has officially been certified a Breastfeeding Friendly Employer. The certification is the first for a financial services firm in the City and comes after a new breastfeeding friendly policy was drafted and internally communicated under MCC’s direction.
“Janney is proud to be the first financial services firm in Philadelphia to create spaces where employees who are mothers feel comfortable and supported in the workplace. Janney works tirelessly to create an inclusive culture, and is committed to providing its diverse workforce with the tools and resources they need to be successful,” said Nikki L. Kushin, Vice President, Head of Total Rewards, Janney.
Breastfeeding provides many benefits to both mothers and babies. Because of the known health benefits, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of a baby’s life and continued breastfeeding to at least one year or beyond as mutually desired by mother and child. Breastfeeding is a healthy, low-cost, and sustainable choice and research shows breastfeeding makes babies stronger, happier and healthier.
While breastfeeding has many benefits for mothers and their babies, it also has a positive impact on businesses. Research has also shown that breastfeeding saves time and money and reduces healthcare costs and sick days. Janney acknowledges and respects all of these attributes and has taken a stand to support breastfeeding employees through their work participating in MCC’s certification program.
Katja Pigur, Director of Breastfeeding Services at MCC says of the certification “Knowing that supporting breastfeeding helps make a more productive, satisfied and healthier workforce and leads to bottom-line benefits, JANNEY decided to be part of the solution and serves now as a wonderful inspiration and example for other companies looking to implement workplace breastfeeding support programs for their employees.”
MCC’s breastfeeding friendly employer services offer comprehensive support to employers looking to support breastfeeding mothers after returning from maternity leave. For Janney, MCC came in as a consultant creating a new pumping in the workplace policy.
MCC looks forward to extending these services to other organizations in Philadelphia, Southeastern Pennsylvania and beyond. For more information on the services or to start the certification process, please contact Katja Pigur at [email protected].
