Early Head Start

An early care and education program that provides services to pregnant women and families with children ages 0-3. Early Head Start (EHS) serves families in their homes or in childcare centers located in South Philadelphia, Norristown, Pottstown, and lower Bucks County, offering:

  • The highest quality educational and family support
  • Free developmental and health screenings for children
  • Services for children with disabilities
  • Connections to community resources for job training, English as a Second Language (ESL) classes, medical and dental care, and more
  • Baby basics such as diapers, gently used clothing, and infant formula

Our childcare centers are all Keystone 3 or Keystone 4 Star-rated facilities!

EHS includes families in all decisions because parents are their children’s first and most important teachers. Families are involved in:

  • Setting goals for themselves and their children
  • Participating in parent-child activities where parents and children play, learn, and share experiences
  • Helping to oversee the program including serving on the parent-led Policy Council

Activities To Try At Home

There are plenty of activities for parents and kids to do together which can help kids prepare for school. Try these exercises, whether you have an entire afternoon, or just a few minutes before bedtime.

We asked MCC’s EHS Education Coordinators, Jessica Smith and Bridget Scott-Doyle to share some of their favorites activities for kids of different ages.
