Ages 1 – 2 years old: An activity that can easily catch the attention of a one-year old child is that of emptying and filing. Give her a container. Scatter random toys such as blocks, cars, anything they show interest in. Show your child how to take the object off of the floor and drop it into your container. It is usually more fun while singing a song that is familiar to the child.
If they are not walking yet, they can still practice their grasp and release.
If the child is walking, having them squat down then come to a stand is ideal.
If the child is an advanced walker, hold the container up high enough for them to reach up and drop.
Remember to use language with your child as you play.
